In a city where fish-based dishes are the rule, you may be surprised to dine in a restaurant where fish is nowhere to be found on its menu and meat is the specialty. The chef prepares some recognizable classic Venetian dishes, but with so many other exciting options, why stick to what you know? Start off with the antipasto insalata di speck d’anatra (duck salad prepared with balsamic vinegar) and then consider the grilled lamb or the filetto al Barolo (filet of beef prepared with wine from Piemonte). Truffles and mushrooms are widely used when in season here even in the dolci. Don’t leave without sampling one of their decadent homemade desserts like the crocantino di riso soffiato alla gianduia con tartufo bianco, made with hazelnuts and white truffles. The restaurant takes its name from the gondoliers who once made a habit of passing in front of its window and requesting an ombra (wine). The restaurant’s wine list features a copious selection of Italian wines and the friendly staff will be happy to guide you in making a selection.
